About

The course ‘Creative writing in French’ ran for the first time in 2017, coordinated by Elise Hugueny-Léger, and co-taught between Elise, Dave Evans, Elodie Laügt and Odile Rimbert.

Odile, a specialist in French language and narration, introduced students to narrative techniques; Dave, who researches French 19th century poetry, initiated students to the writing of poems, including mastering the metrics of sonnets; with Elodie, who teaches adaptation theory and practice, students worked on adapting fairy tales into modernised stories; and with Elise, they looked at non-fictional techniques and wrote texts in the first person, including diaries, letters and self-portraits.

The course was awarded a University Teaching Excellence Award in April 2017 for its setting up and initial running.

In 2018, the course was shortlisted for a THE Award in the ‘Excellence and Innovation in the Arts’ category.
